Canon Printer Drivers

The C5185 Now supports postscript as well.

Mac OS 10.6

There is a bug in the Canon installer that makes the autoConfigure utility fail when interacting with CUPS on 10.6. Until Canon fixes the problem the 5185 won't function with Mac OS 10.6 with the postscript driver or the proper UFR II driver. However, there is a temporary install method for the UFR II driver you can use. When the official PS and UFR drivers are released for 10.6 you will need to reinstall and add the printer again to get all of the functionality of the device, but until then you can still print.

First download the driver here: Media:UFR_II_V200_MacOSX_us_EN.dmg‎

  1. Connect to Office Wired Network (100BaseT)
  2. Install the driver.
  3. Launch system pref pane for 'Print & Fax', click to add the printer and select IP > LPD
  4. Enter the IP address of the iRC5185 and a queue name of LP.
  5. Then in the Print Using menu, change the menu to 'Select Printer Software' and when the Printer Software pane appears, type 5185. This should make the 'Canon iR C5185 UFR II (US)' appear. Select it and press OK then press Add.
  6. It will prompt you to select the options that are installed on the printer. Enable Job Accounting and press Continue. This will add the printer queue.
  7. When printing, set job accounting on under <Special Features> menu, and set username and null password under the sub menu <Job Accounting>.
  8. Set 2 Sided Printing and Stapling under the <Finishing> menu.
  9. Under <Quality> menu set color mode to <Black and White>.
  10. Under <Setup> menu, set presets to <Last USed Settings>.
